Sounds like some good ideas. Makes me feel good that I've recently implemented some of them, like keeping a decent balance in savings, paying bills on time, and contributing full employer matching percentage to my 401k.

I really like the question posed here. I think it's a practical question in that it typically comes up when you have a new "special someone" in your life.

For me I have tended to reveal things about past relationships. There are several reasons for this. First off it's simply comfort level. That is, in some sense I want to tell everyone my story but there are only a few whom I feel OK to tell parts of my story to. Also I feel like the woman should know where I'm coming from. If she just can't see herself with someone who has been to the places I have then I can't change that, so best to get it in the open as soon as possible. However I think that a lot of this is due to the fact that I tend to be attracted to slightly "messy" women, women who have been there to some extent, so there is an understanding.

I sort of just did the opposite. I sent out a mass e-mail and my ex write back. I didn't respond because I still don't like seeing her name or thinking about her.

And the answer is no, don't deal with someone that regularly upsets you. It just shows that something isn't working.

I am often reminded of video game lingo when reading these kind of emails sent. "Screenshot or it didn't happen." Instead of sending viral emails to friends, send a link to the source. If I find that source credible, I'll believe it, but from what was posted here, I would probably just delete it since I know I can send an email to my friends with numbers on it, too. Then again, I'd delete it anyway because I really don't like politics.

"My contention is that email messages like this, though they may have some basis on facts, are sensationalist and intended to skew popular opinion in a way that is subversive and manipulative. Also, I feel that it's irresponsible to forward these types of messages; they reflect poorly on the sender regardless of intention and whether or not the list of recipients includes people that have an ability to analyze their contents. The message lists no sources and its language is clearly extremely biased."

This is a perfect description of the problem.

I came across your blog while trying to find a polite way to reply to a business contact - one who consistently feels the need to forward me small-minded political tirades.

I think these types of memorandums have no place in the corporate e-mail world.

Thanks.

    Paul,

Where is my response on your blog? It sounds when I read it, like you are trying to solicite negative responses, not a friendly debate. I DID give you sources...where are they? I copied and pasted them. I even said that people should talk, share and keep issues in front of them when making major decisions. Because you only shared one side of our conversation, this blog has no credibility.

Well this def. was worth reading Paul I enjoyed it.

1. Not being attracted anymore? That makes me sad too. So far though.. that hasn't happened to me. Granted I'm young but I've done the long term serious relationships thing. Once I'm smitten, I'm smitten lol

2. I can totally resonate with you on this. I understand that money is important however I'm so driven by quality time and things like that.

3. Well ditto Paul. Ditto.

4. Well strap up them bootstraps and get to running! I just started a 12 week challenge and I'm forced to run. I hate running until I get pretty ok at it lol. Its like pulling teeth. Rewarding though. Promise.

5. Awww shucks! You're welcome!

Gees, it took me forever to run thru the Tweets to get your URL! But now that I have arrived, I'll get to my purpose (cause I'm tired and want to get to my prayers and get to sleep. Been studying numbers) and that is to give you this podcast to listen to sometime on your way home from work. http://tinyurl.com/588tge I always listen before bed for encouragement and this one struck me as one that the Holy Spirit was prompting me to give to you. Enjoy.

Life (as the Bible outlines it) really is about a "union of contrasts" (James Stewert, Theologian) or paradox. Chesterton often pointed these out: "Whoever saves his life will lose it and whoever loses his life will find it" Whoever would be great among you must be a servant" "The dead shall rise.." Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God" "Count it all joy when you meet with various trials." You see the pattern? The path to a thing may make sense to us in the physical world, but in God's spiritual world, it is often the opposite when it comes to our most intense desires. In the fallen physical, we all have various degrees of pride to overcome. Pride or ego darkens the light of an aspiration. It then becomes no longer the thing we really DO want because we have set limitations on it. For instance, love of another must stand all sorts of tests if it is to be fashioned into love that is real. Life rarely follows our timing and course. Our beautiful blonde love may walk thru the doors of the WTC and be greeted with an inferno of jet fuel that leaves her scarred for life. She is still the same loving wife but no longer the physically same outwardly featured blonde. This really happened and the husband and wife wrote a book about it. Now reverse the story. Suppose it is you who walks thru the doors of the WTC and are greeted by the blast of fire? Wouldn't you want to still be loved for the same Paul you are and have always been? Wouldn't you want the person pledging to love you, to love first so that you remain lovable to them no matter what? Of course, this is the same love that binds all the members of a family, children and adults together. To experience true ecstasy, between husband and wife for a lifetime, you must die to this kind of love and live to the other first, THEN the other will be there based on trust and that promise. Make sure the one you choose to love feels this way, too. Love is always a choice.

Enjoyed "Worth Reading". Very thoughtful. Point 1 will lead you (now) to the wonders of the Song of Solomon. The "rule" of contradiction works here: it is only when you "die" to something (in this case, self) that it is given life. The opposite of what you think will happen then does: age and looks will reverse themselves because love comes after commitment. Love a thing first, and then it becomes lovable. But this is something that every man has to discover for himself.

I came out as green: 13-11-8-4

I go back again to purpose: what is God's purpose for you, for me, for others? Try this: "Acts chapter 17:26 says our Father chose the time and place we would be born. He determined what we'd look like. God gave us our personality, talents, and spiritual gifts. Fussing over what He has chosen for us will keep us unsettled. Understand His purpose for our life. Proverbs chapter 3:5-6 reminds us that embracing God's unique plan for us will bring satisfaction and peace." We do have some control over how we act morally towards each other: for instance, I'm not going to spit in your food, as this is thinking more of myself than of you which is arrogance and a form of idolatry. From this we get our rules for politeness and such. But it does go back to the standards for moral behavior that God graciously gives us so we don't have to "make it up" as we go along or be confused because everyone or every group has their own "code" of behavior and indiscriminately sanctions a member as a result. The fact is that sometimes we are not going to meld well with others when we are doing what we are supposed to be doing as regards to our purpose in life. If we have God's peace on the matter of our purpose, then we can get through those times even if we feel momentary loneliness; it passes. If God , wants you to find your mate, now, you will. So be who God made you to be: if a leader, then be one. The other part is just about "sculpting" you to be that better leader. Keep on track. Make sure you are in the place God wants you to be and in His purpose. So enjoy the timing: it will come. And you will find the kind of fulfillment He has obviously put in your heart to desire. Trust that and follow Him to where it leads. She will be there and you will know it.
